The League of Friends

Edenbridge War Memorial Hospital has been at the heart of our community for over eighty years, and is located in a park-like setting to the south of the town. We have a walk-in Minor Injuries Unit open seven days a week which also deals with Minor Ailments, regular outpatient clinics across a wide range of specialties, a modern Physiotherapy Dept as well as 14 in-patient beds, many in single en-suite rooms.

The Hospital has direct links to other professional community based nursing staff, Health Visitors, Midwives and social care workers. It is truly a Hospital for the Community!

The League of Friends has been active in the Hopital for very many years, during which time it has raised and spent well several £1 million. These funds provide additional hospital facilities for both patients and staff – facilities that the NHS are unable to fund but which the community deserves and has a right to expect. In the last few years alone, the League of Friends has spent in excess of £300,000 in upgrading the Hospital's premises, as part of a £1,000,000 overhaul of the entire Hospital. In addition, we have spent £65,000 in renovating and completely re-equipping the Physiotherapy Department and a further £25,000 on purchasing specialist eye and audio testing equipment. We have recently put new TV’s at each of our 14 In-patient beds.

Recent investment in our Hospital by the NHS itself has been considerable, with a new state-of-the-art X-Ray machine installed, considerable upgrading of the internal and external decoration and a complete re-surfacing of the car park, which has plenty of space for current staff and visitors and is entirely free to use!

From time to time the Hospital's future has been uncertain due to varying financial constraints on the NHS. However, despite many years of fighting off threats to the Hospital's future, the building has recently been given notice of the need to upgrade both building and services and plans are being made to move the services (except the in-patient wards) to a new venue possibly in 2020.

Nevertheless, currently we still have patients in the Hospital and we are still therefore fundraising to make their stay with us, however short, comfortable and "relaxing". To help us to further assist the Hospital and its patients, if you have not already done so, please join the League of Friends.
